My visit to PING Europe, Gainsborough I travelled to Gainsborough last week to the headquarters of PING Europe to attend their official custom fit course. This is a programme aimed at PGA Pro's & Professional Club Fitters to learn more about one of the world’s biggest golf brands and how they fit clubs. Along with nine other delegates from across the country, the day commenced with a 'Fun Quiz' based on our existing knowledge of PING. Myself and another Pro from York both scored 100% which was a good start, earning us a limited-edition Lee Westwood baseball hat each as a prize, and no this didn't appear for sale on Friday morning in the shop as was suggested by a certain member! Following a briefing on the history of PING, we were given a full factory tour. This was very insightful and to see first-hand the assembly process and the attention to detail at every stage, just confirmed why PING have remained at the very top of the industry. Next stop was the PING Tour Truck which travels around Europe looking after the staff players such as Westwood. On board is essentially a mobile factory/workshop, with a build cost of around £1 million! We then drove the short distance to Gainsborough Golf Club (owned by PING) for an afternoon of practical club fitting in the European Fitting Centre. This was a great opportunity to learn off each other and share information.
