[* END *]Sun, Sun, Sun… By the middle of last week, temperatures soared into the mid 20’s and we all enjoyed a few days of fine, dry weather. The course benefited massively and along with a steady breeze on some of the days, course conditions were excellent. The first Seniors friendly match took place last Thursday against Huddersfield club Longley Park. I am pleased to inform you that West Bradford won 5-1, so a great start for Paul Winter's men! There was a real buzz around the club as both teams practiced on the putting green and chipping area ahead of their matches. It really felt like Spring had finally arrived!

TaylorMade wood range dominates yet again! You will have already read about how strong the TaylorMade range is this year, but it can’t be ignored as week after week we see fantastic fitting results in the studio! Last week we fitted the M3 driver for a customer and after trying various shafts and tweaking the loft and weights, I found the optimum setting for him. As a Professional Club Fitter, to be able to make these adjustments and then measure the proceeding shots, check the data and make a recommendation is vital. Clubs are no longer impulse purchases for most, but now an investment! Make sure you book a fitting with us so you don’t make an expensive mistake!

PING G400 irons come out on top! Following a custom fit appointment in the studio a couple of weeks ago, West Bradford member Jason Stockings took delivery of his new PING G400 irons. Jason’s previous set had been bought ‘straight off the rack’ and as such were standard length, loft, lie and grip size! Jason now has a shiny new set of irons which are 0.5 inch longer, stiff flex, 3 degrees upright lie with thicker grips. If anybody still doubts if custom fitting works, check out the results of last week’s Midweek Stableford competition……. the winner was, Jason Stockings! Need I say more!

Junior Academy - The future is bright! I really am very fortunate to love the job I do, and this week I felt privileged to be working with such a talented group of junior golfers. The age range in the Saturday coaching session varies from 7 up to 13, but each and every one of these juniors is doing great. Highlights for me on Saturday included Edward putting for a birdie on the first hole, Alex driving the ball 155 yards down the 2nd hole, followed by a superb 5-iron shot complete with a lovely draw shape, capped off with Hayden winning the putting knock-out competition. One things for sure, the future is extremely bright for junior golf at West Bradford! Pictured here is Edward lining up his birdie putt on the 1st green.

It’s all about the divot! New member David Lawrence has had several lessons with me in the studio over the winter, but with the improvement in weather, last week we decided to take a look at his swing off grass. We initially worked on his 7-iron and talked about his divots! “What divot?” I hear some of you cry. It’s fair to say that many club players don’t regularly take one! If you do then next time take the time to check the following: depth and direction. If you slice the ball (or pull) the likely hood is your divot points left of target, and opposite for those who hook (or push) the ball. Slicers will often have deeper divots than the shallower ones of those prone to hooking. I am pleased to say that David’s divots were generally straight and shallow following his coaching and practice over the winter! Here’s a picture of some divots that could be useful to learn from; notice the shallow even depth of the divots in the picture which were taken with a 7-iron. If you need some help with your game, give me a call.
