Welcome to this week's newsletter. This week we have news of two more great home wins for the club, a new Junior Open, the nice weather bringing out the best in the course, ladies coaching has officially begun, the importance of your short game, we want your old shoes (not kidding!), the shop is fully stocked and looking great and your chance to extend the season in 2018. Enjoy the read! |
It’s a team game! Following on from the recent successes in the first two Seniors Friendly matches, West Bradford have had two more superb home wins to announce. Firstly, the Lawrence Batley Team had a full house with a 8-0 victory over Dewsbury GC. The 8-15s then went on to beat The Manor GC 7-1 under the watchful eye of Chris Schofield. Congratulations to all the team members who competed and we look forward to following your progress over the season.

Junior Open A brand new event has been planned for Thursday 9th August, with the introduction of a Junior Open. The format will be an individual stableford in three handicap categories, and open to all juniors under the age of 18. We also intend to run a 10-hole event for the younger players which will help them gain experience on the course whilst also competing. There are very few other clubs within Bradford which run Junior Opens, so we are hoping for a good entry from the local area and also from clubs further afield.

A course to shout about! Well another week has passed and the course just keeps getting better and better! I played a round last week marking a card for a member in the midweek competition, and despite a damp start, I was really impressed with the condition. The greens are improving day by day and the great feedback from members, guests and visitors says it all. We really do have a course to shout about!

Sharpen your short game and lower your scores!
It still amazes me why so few golfers work on their short games. With around 60-65% of shots played within 100 yards of the hole, and 70% of those shots actually on the green itself, we could all improve with more time spent working on this area of the game. I came across a really useful article the other day, which charts the number of greens hit in regulation across all abilities over a ten year period.

The PGA Tour average is less than 12 greens per round, yet they consistently score under par! The best in the world miss a third of the greens during a game, but their short games and putting is exceptionally good. So, the bottom line is that to score better, you don’t necessarily need to hit the ball better, you need to improve your chipping and putting. Check out the chart here and find your handicap band to see the average for players like yourself. To find out how I can improve your short game, book a lesson today! | |

We want your old shoes! Yes really, we want your old, leaking, tired shoes! At the moment we can offer you a trade-in against a brand new pair of FootJoy Contour shoes, probably the most comfortable pair of shoes you’ve ever worn! There is no catch, but hurry as this offer is only running whilst stocks last!

Remember if you don’t see a particular product in store we can almost certainly source this for you at the same price or sometimes cheaper! One thing you can be guaranteed of is our commitment to customer service, which is without a doubt better than you’ll be able to find on the high street or online and definitely not to be undervalued! We Coach, We Fit, We Care!

Extend the season in 2018 No doubt you have been enjoying all the lovely weather of late, well if you’d like to extend the season for yourself this year, why not consider booking onto my coaching/golf trip to Portugal in November. We are heading to the fabulous Vale do Lobo resort on the Algarve for 3 nights, 3 rounds, stopping in first class accommodation with breakfast, daily coaching sessions delivered by myself, airport transfers, buggies and prizes included! I have taken the first bookings already for what is sure to be a great trip. The trip is open to gents and ladies so couples are very welcome to book. Coaching will be fun and informative and cover the long and short game. For more information on the resort I’ve booked please click here.

Let’s face it: we all want to hit the ball further. Being able to hit longer drives gives you less club into the green, making everything that little bit easier. There are many ways you can try and generate more power during your swing, and nearly all of them start from the ground up. |
Trust your footwear Despite his small frame, tour star Rickie Fowler is renowned for his power. As you can see in the three images above, he pushes off from his right foot through impact and relies on great grip and stability to ensure the power his body is creating doesn’t come at the cost of control. Having a strong base is something we should all aspire for. The FootJoy Tour-S can help you do this thanks to its PowerStrap that enhances support, plus its nine cleats per foot that offer maximum stability across a range of terrains. |
