Proof in the figures! I gave a 30-minute lesson at the end of last week to an ex-member who was struggling with a low hook shot with all his irons. This was the perfect opportunity for me to highlight the error using our state of the art launch monitor in the studio. Following a few shots with his 7-iron it became immediately obvious to me that the underlying fault was in the grip. After a subtle change in hand position there was a dramatic improvement in his shots. Before the grip change, the club face at impact was closed (pointing left of the intended target) by nearly 8 degrees. This may not seem like much, but the resulting shots were around 40-45 yards left of target! The grip change corrected this and by the end of the session the shots were hit much higher (a closed clubface reduces loft), but most importantly on target! If you’re struggling with a particular shot then come and talk to us to find out how we can help. Below is a before and after screen shot taken during the lesson.
