I received some superb feedback last week from a client who had two sessions with me whilst back in the UK on his summer holiday.

These were his words.

"Thank you to Mark Tyler for helping me with my golf. For six years, I attempted to teach myself and remained stuck in a rut making the same mistakes. YouTube clips and random advice from friends only took me so far. Mark talks fast and wastes no time. He quickly established my golfing history before watching a few shots.

Right away, he began correcting my stance. When I didn’t quite get it he took photos and explained it again in a slightly different way offering suggestions. The next lesson focussed on grip and angle of the clubface to improve the accuracy of my shots. This one was carried out using state of the art technology providing instant feedback. Mark makes sure that each minute is made use of, progressing at a pace that feels natural and answering questions as they come up.

Ladies group continutes to grow

Last Wednesday morning six lady golfers attended the fortnightly group coaching session. We worked on short game, irons and driving during the hour session, with everyone taking away something to work on which will help improve their game.

The sessions are aimed at all levels of player and open to members and non-members alike; last week a lady from East Bierley Golf Club joined the group.

The next session is planned for Wednesday 8th August, 10:30am-11:30am at a cost of £10.00 per person. Pre-booking is essential so please contact a member of the Pro Shop team if you’d like to attend by clicking here or calling 01274 542767.

Juniors create thier own hole

Last Saturday we had five Juniors attending the weekly coaching session.

The first part of the lesson was a chance for the youngsters to design a hole by utilising coloured markers to represent a water hazard, bunker, fairway and out of bounds.

The picture shows the five boys working hard on their pitching technique on the finished designed hole.

Junior summer camp

We are only two days away from the start of this series of Friday Junior summer coaching sessions.

Younger players (8 or below) have a one hour session starting at 9:30am, followed by the age 9+ session running for an hour and a half (starts 10:45am).

Pre-booking is essential as numbers are limited. These sessions aren’t just for members children/grand children but open to everyone.

What does it mean?

Golf jargon can be confusing. Take drivers for example; why is there a 460cc limit set by golf's governing bodies and what does this actually mean?

Why is driver head size limited?
Driver heads are measured in volume and are limited to 460 cubic centimetres (cc). This limit is enforced to stop technology diminishing the skill level needed to play well off the tee.

What are the benefits of larger heads?
Playing a 460cc driver, like the PING G400 Max (far left), gives you the biggest head possible, which means you can miss the middle of the face now and then and still hit a good shot because they tend to be extremely forgiving.

What about smaller heads?
Smaller heads, like the 445cc PING G400, create less drag as they move through the air, so should give you faster swing speeds, which translate to faster ball speeds and more distance, but are a little less forgiving than a larger 460cc headed driver.
