Competition news

President’s Day set to be a scorcher!

This coming Saturday is Mike Robertson’s President’s Day, with around 150 members booked on to play in the competition!

The weather forecast looks superb with temperatures set to climb up to 25 degrees by the afternoon! On behalf of myself and the Pro Shop team we wish Mike all the best for his big day and look forward to welcoming you all at the weekend.

It’s a good sign!

We have lots of exciting plans for the Pro Shop & Studio over the coming months including the installation of putting quality indoor turf within the studio, extra slat walling and a Ladies section.

Last week we installed some new in-store signage, highlighting some key messages and services we offer at the club.

We have received some really positive feedback from members and visitors regarding the shop which has been great.

PING comes out on top

I carried out a driver fitting for a customer last week who was keen on updating his current PING G25 driver. After trying various heads, lofts and shafts during the hour long session, the clear winner was the PING G400 LST 10 degree (+1 degree adjustment) with a PING tour stiff shaft. Average distance gain was 10 yards with improved shot dispersion.

Wayne (pictured below) collected his new driver on Wednesday, and we ventured out onto the course to put his new club to the test during a round. I’m pleased to report that Wayne hit the ball really well off the tee and was delighted with his new purchase!

Measure everything, guess nothing!

Many people are sceptical of technology but let me assure you that if used correctly the benefits to golfers are huge!

I invested in a high-tech launch monitor around three and a half years ago which has been invaluable to me as a coach and club fitter. Used correctly the data available allows me to be very specific in what I work on with a pupil during lessons and speeds up the learning process considerably.

When it comes to club fitting, the increase in prices of equipment in recent years has meant launch monitors are an essential part of the fitting process, and rightly so with top brand drivers often retailing at £400 upwards!

The most beautiful shot in golf

If we were to ask you this question what would you say? We think some of you would say the ‘Tiger stinger’ but a good proportion would say the pitch shot that takes a couple of bounces before stopping to a halt. It looks sensational but how on earth do you play it?

The key to making this shot is simple – your wedges. Yes, technique is key and is certainly something we can talk you through during a lesson but without the correct equipment you stand no chance.
