Fitting news

TaylorMade Fitting Event at Bracken Ghyll

We are delighted to announce that TaylorMade will be supporting us this year with a Fitting Event on Thursday 26th September between 10:00 - 14:00.

The event will be held in the indoor studio, with a full-time club fitter from TaylorMade in attendance along with myself.

I already offer a comprehensive range of fitting equipment, but there will be more product options and specifications available to try across the manufacturers full range.

There are only 8 x 30 minute slots available, on a first come first served basis, so if you’d like to book in please let a member of the Pro Shop team know as soon as possible.

Let the numbers speak for themselves!

We’ve had some superb fitting results lately for our customers, but a stand out one for me was on Sunday afternoon when a customer booked in to replace his ageing PING G hybrid.

After trying the TaylorMade GAPR Mid and Hi which he hit very well (longest overall with an average of 241 yards!), the PING G410 3-hybrid came out on top with an average distance of 235 yards but with a much improved ball flight (higher launch and consistently straighter).

It really was a case of letting the numbers recorded on our launch monitor speak for themselves!

Why the recent surge?

Here’s some homework for you: the next time you're watching golf on TV, keep an eye on the number of pros using putters with larger heads. Whilst some golfers still prefer the traditional blade style putters from years gone by, over 60% of PGA Tour players have a larger headed putter in their bag today – the question is: why?

TaylorMade Spider X and TP Black Copper Ardmore 3

High MOI putters

These are all to do with stability, feel and alignment. When you take a look at TaylorMade’s Spider X and TP Black Copper Ardmore 3 putters (pictured above) you will see what we mean.

The larger head style of both putters is designed to increase MOI, which is crucial as it means the putter face will twist less at impact, especially when struck away from the sweet spot.

How do they work?

It's all to do with the additional weight in the extremities of the head when compared to traditional blade style putters, which helps to keep the face stable through impact.

You might also find that a heavier and larger putter is easier to control, therefore improving your stroke. Either way, we have a great selection of putters waiting for you to try in-store.

Golf equipment has come a long way in recent years but is there a more beneficial technology than the Boa Fit System? If you haven't tried shoes with Boa on yet then we couldn't recommend it highly enough, and here's a video detailing why they make such a difference compared with traditional laces.
