Adams tip of the week

Warming up

A proper warm up is essential for a golfer to be able to move their body at its optimal performance. A recent study carried out by the University of Loughborough found that out of the 1500 golfers only 20 warmed up properly before playing. Many golfers turn up 5 minutes before the tee time and get straight out of the car and hit a driver as hard as they can.

The Tip

Static stretches for a couple minutes to get the muscles ready for movement (Stretching arms, back and legs) And then dynamic stretching using the muscles which are going to be used in the golf swing which can be found on the link below.

Where's your ball?

Small adjustments to a golfers set-up often produce some great results.

Last weekend, BGGC member John Arran had a lesson using his 3-wood off the tee. The first picture shows a ball position too central in the stance with the hands psositioned forward of the ball.

This position promoted a steep angle of attack, reducing loft and resulting in a low ball flight.

Picture two shows a ball position more forward with the hands in line with the ball. This simple change helped John deliver the club with a shallower angle of attack, increasing loft for a higher launch and more distance.

Grip check

The golfers hands are the most important part of the body, as this is the only link with the golf club!

The picture on the left shows BGGC member Ben Parkinson with a very 'strong' right hand i.e the hand positioned too far to the right of the grip. This would usually produce a ball flight to the left. The picture on the right shows a more 'neutral' position with the 'V' formed between the right thumb and forefinger pointing just right of the golfers chin.

Not an easy change but long term one that would benefit the golfer with an improvement in accuracy.
